What is BigCommerce Software?
BigCommerce is a hosted SAAS software solution for E-Commerce websites. It is similar to Shopify and Shopify is their main competitor. We evaluated both Shopify and BigCommerce in order to decide which software solution to offer to our clients. We chose BigCommerce over Shopify because we believe it is the better E-Commerce software package. With BigCommerce we can still be programmers. We can customize the BigCommerce theme and add custom programming. They have a program called Stencil which allows us to download all of the theme code and build a local development environment. Then we can publish the theme to the BigCommerce cloud hosted environment. Unlike WordPress and Magento where we host those websites ourselves, with BigCommerce it is hosted on their cloud environment. Shopify is very hard to customize. You pretty much pick a Shopify template and go with it. Developers do not have access to a lot of the code. You are stuck with the template. With BigCommerce we have been pleasantly surprised with how much access we have to the code and how easy it is to customize.
