We sound like a broken record these days.  It seems like every IDP announcement starts with “another Magento site launched“.  That is not the case.  We do a lot of programming and work on a daily basis that is not Magento.  But we have had a string of Magento E-Commerce projects over the last 6 months.  The newest Magento E-Commerce site in the IDP portfolio is  The Tub Connection is a great Missouri company that sells bathtubs, bathroom vanities, linen cabinets, fixtures and bathroom accessories online.  The Tub Connection has been in the online e-commerce business for a long time.  The new Magento web site replaced their existing e-commerce site.  The client decided they wanted to move to a new e-commerce platform that was more robust and that would support automating some of their redundant business processes.

The Magento project included graphic design work for a new design, responsive Magento template development to build a mobile friendly Magento templates, Magento setup and configuration, custom programming to import products and images, search engine optimization, home page rotator development and Magento web hosting.  The home page features a new slick design with an image rotator that advertises product categories and call to action text.  The home page also includes featured products boxes that are expandable.  A lot of work went into the product page template to make it attractive and user friendly.  We incorporated custom attributes for product variables as drop downs, added an image extension for product images and tweaked colors and layout.  On the Magento checkout page we installed a one step checkout extension for better conversion and simplicity.  Take a look at some of the bathtub product pages to see all the great work we did.

The biggest challenge with this Magento project was importing the product database.  We had to write a custom script that took their existing e-commerce database and converted it into a Magento product database.  We had to map a lot of fields and create the configurable products in Magento.  Trial and error, persistence and hard work paid off.  All of the products we loaded via importing the data instead of setting up the products one by one.

Phase I of this project included a fully functional and mobile friendly e-commerce store.  Phase II of this project will include custom programming for freight shipping, automation of freight shipping, bill of lading, Quick Books integration and automation of other business processes to help streamline the business and the web site.
