IDP recently completed a web hosting data migration from NetStandard to LightEdge data center in Kansas City, Missouri. We were informed that NetStandard would be closing June of 2022. IDP had been using Netstandard Data Center in Kansas City since 2003 when the company was formed. We were forced to migrate to a new server co-location service.
Several different web hosting solutions were investigated including physical servers, cloud hosting and virtual cloud at LightEdge. Cost of service and cost of migration were the most important criteria for selecting the new hosting data center provider. In the end, we decided that migrating from a VMWare to VMWare at LightEdge environment would be best. IDP will be utilizing fully managed services via the LightEdge virtual private cloud service.
Our data center migration project had to be completed in 5 months. We were able to stand up the new environment at LightEdge and migrate our server Co-location environment infrastructure and data center to the new solution. Details on the migration can be found on this Case Study at LightEdge Solutions.
LightEdge is located 125 feet underground in a limestone mine structure (known as “the caves”); they offer the most advanced data center facilities and 24/7/365 access to support teams of certified engineers.
How does the data migration affect web hosting customers?
It doesn’t. The migration is complete. All customer websites and databases have been migrated to the new environment. You may have received an email or a phone call about your DNS domain name records and switching your IP address to the new environment during this process. Thank you for you help! We were able to successfully migrate all of our customer websites in 3 months.
Most of our web hosting customers utilized managed wordpress hosting service. WordPress sites are pretty easy to migrate. We routinely migrate WordPress websites for customers. The most time consuming part is getting access to the DNS zone files to change the IP address to the new location.
Is the new web hosting environment better?
Yes. All new hardware and software were used to build our new VMWare environment. The new environment is more redundant, better bandwidth, redundant file level backups, offsite backups, managed firewall, managed security. DDOS protection and managed services.
LightEdge is the best in data protection and disaster recovery.
